Jail-BarsThe Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously during Tuesday?s regular board meeting to accept a two-year payment plan to cover the $320,000 tab for a Pine Ridge man shot in February by a Citrus County Sheriff?s deputy.

?

The plan includes quarterly payments to Shands Health Care in the amount of $40,000 each, the first payment to begin on or before October 1, 2012, with payments on or before the first day of every third month, until fully paid.? The last payment will be due on July 1, 2014.

?

By state statute, the County is financially responsible to pay an inmate?s medical care.? The original bill from Shands Health Care in Gainesville was in the amount of $527,923.50.? According to County Attorney Richard Wesch, after several negotiations between county staff, specifically Office of Management and Budget, and the hospital, the bill was reduced to $320,000 with zero interest.
