Former Miami baseball coach Ron Fraser dies

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) ? Ron Fraser, the coach who was called "the wizard of college baseball" and turned Miami into one of the game's powerhouse programs, has died.

Fraser's family spokesman, Tony Segreto, says he died Sunday morning. Fraser had been battling Alzheimer's disease for many years.

Fraser led Miami to the 1982 and 1985 national titles and took the Hurricanes to the College World Series 12 times. He spent 30 years at the school, retiring in 1992 with 1,271 wins.

Fraser was best known for ideas that even he called "crazy" in order to generate fan interest, everything from raffling off car batteries to bikini nights during Hurricanes games. He's a member of at least six different Halls of Fame, was a three-time NCAA coach of the year and led the 1992 U.S. Olympic team.
